Calf 4

The forth calf was born sometime early morning April 3.  #7 is the calf's mother.  It is a boy.   Paul helped me band the calf in the early evening.  He came up with the idea of using a leather shoestring to keep the balls in place before using the bander to place the band around them.  (We were having a little trouble making sure we got both balls in place.)

These first few photos were taken a few days after his birth.

Broco faced like his mother.

The first calf born comes over to make his acquaintance.

I like the dark apostrophe in the white area over his eye.

When young calves sleep, they sleep hard.

The mother keeps a watchful eye on her son.  In the first photo mother is telling her son not to go around the corner of the barn.

The following two photos were taken today, ten days later.  Calf 4 is best buds with the other broco-faced calf, the first born calf.  The black broco-faced calf's mother is Big Red, a brown cow.  The brown broco-faced calf's mother is a black broco-faced cow.  Go figure.
