Last week, as I worked on the hayfield corner fence, I discovered fresh mounds of dirt in the area. Pocket gophers? Didn't I get all of them earlier this Fall?
I set out a trap.
Yup. A pocket gopher was there. Either I missed it or it moved in after I finished trapping earlier this Fall.
The pocket gopher kept burying the trap. Every day before I started work on the fence I would re-position the trap after digging it out from under a mound of dirt the pocket gopher heaped on it.
Then it snowed.
Would I get the pocket gopher this year?
Yes! The first day it snowed I checked the trap. It was partially covered with dirt but inside the trap was a dead pocket gopher.
My 55th and final pocket gopher for the year.
