Calf 13 - special needs?

I watched calf 13 this afternoon.  After his mother ate hay for well over an hour while he rested and slept, once she was done eating, she came over and started to lick him and wash him.  He couldn't sleep if he wanted to as her licking moved him all around.

Since he couldn't sleep he got up.  He walked a little here and a little there.  His mother stood and walked by him.  Finally he decided to drink.  His mother stood and patiently waited for him to drink.  It took him a bit to find her udder and then find a nipple he wanted to drink from.  He kept bypassing the obvious nipple in front of him.   His movements in trying to reach the udder, then the nipple, were a little spastic.

He drank for a little bit.  A short little bit.  Then he seemed satisfied. Already?!  He had a milk "string" hanging from his mouth as he decided to sniff and check out a corral panel then a gate.

He did a little walk and tried jumping a couple times.   I have seen calves only six hours old move and jump better than calf 13 who is now three days old.

Then he laid down.  Once he laid down his mother laid down next to him.

The good news is that the mother allows him to drink.  She walked over near him and patiently waited for him to drink.  She only kicked a couple of times and I think that was because in his effort to find a nipple probably tickled her.

Some of the calves sleeping in the morning.  Calf 13 and his mother are on the far left.
