I bought six cow / calf pairs from Dan. He brought them over this morning, a day earlier than planned. The cows have been with a bull this Summer and should be pregnant with delivery next April/May. This year a number of the cows had given birth late Spring to early Summer so their calves are small (and cute). This Summer Dan pastured several of the cattle's calves from last year and they were good cattle.
We unloaded the cattle in the corral and then I opened the gate to the hayfield where Momma was located. She ran across the hayfield to meet the new cattle.
One of the cows (number 55) is huge - maybe 1600 lbs. Dan says she is the boss of the group of six and Tammy and I noticed that right off. She is twice the size of Momma and can easily push her around. Tammy says number 55 may think she is the boss, but she is not. Tammy still favors Momma.
Tammy also feels bad for Momma as all the other cows have babies and Momma doesn't, and is the seventh wheel. But Momma is no longer alone and shouldn't be sad anymore.
Here is a 51 second video of three of the cow/calf pairs making their way out of the corral to the hayfield. One of the calves was a little slow and it took a bit for it to figure out how to exit the corral through the gate.
