This time I knew the solution. I filled the low reservoir with brake fluid (as the vehicle manual calls for in the rare case the fluid level is low) and the shifting problem disappeared.
Then it was off under a cold sunny sky to visit mom.

Clutch
Who would have thought? After all these many, many years of my family and I driving vehicles with a clutch and not having any clutch problems my car had a shifting/clutch problem last month. Now this morning my brother's pickup suddenly had the same shifting/clutch problem. 
This time I knew the solution. I filled the low reservoir with brake fluid (as the vehicle manual calls for in the rare case the fluid level is low) and the shifting problem disappeared.
